Category: The Provisions of Jesus

meyers-pumpI am thankful for what the Lord had done for me last week. On a very very rainy, dreary day last week after a large tropical system had dropped nearly 4″ of rain I receive a call from around 3 PM from my wife. She tells me that there is no water at home. Several things go through my head, but I try and have her check the circuit breakers to see if any had tripped. None had. So I decided I had to come home and check to see what has happened.

I get home and drive back to the pumps through the soaked mud ground. I can see nothing from sight that there is anything wrong with the pumps. So after parking my truck, which BTW I was supposed to be servicing that evening, I get my tools and take the back of the motor housing off of the pump. Nothing wrong here. Stumped I remove the pump by undoing the removable pump fittings I had put on several weeks ago (one of the best decisions I have made). Setting it up in my shop I find I can get it to buzz, but not start. I tear into it more and still can not find anything wrong. I finally decide that the starting winding on the motor must be fried. After looking at the windings I do find that something has happened on the backside of the motor. It looks like it has been fried by something. I remember the night before and a large lighting bolt striking very near to our house. I believe it fried the motor. Bummed, my son and I venture to my dad’s house and see if he has any motors that I could swap as the pump housing of my pump is perfectly fine (and also perfectly fitted for my well pump piping.) After grabbing a pump that I “think” may work from my dad, we head to Home Depot and proceed to purchase a $300.00 pump. We head back home and stop by by neighbors house to see if he has any pumps that work. After looking at their computer while my neighbor checks for old pumps he has laying around we determine that all of his pumps are too small. All to be had were 1/2 HP pumps and I needed a 1 1/2 HP.  So, we head back to home and proceed to install the new pump.

But, I decide to take one more look at my old pump to see if there is anything I can do. I prayed to the Lord mind you before we went searching for the new replacement pumps but did not see any fruit from those prayers, until now.

When I began to test the windings of the motor I noticed that the starting winding was lacking continuity. I knew there must be some break in the wire, but where? So I decided to tear the windings apart thinking that I had nothing to lose if I broke the motor more. After digging a little while, bam, there it was! Praise the Lord! I proceeded to strip the varnish off the ends fo the wire and twisted them together. I put the motor back together and it start up! Praise Jesus!

After taking it apart again to insure that the connection I made by twisting was secure (soldering them did not work for some reason), I tucked the windings I tore apart and secured them with some black silicone.

Well fast forward about 1 week and it is still pumping like a champ. Man, I am glad God helped me in this! So “Thankful” for His great provision. I hope it holds out for many more years.

What is happening should be no surprise

The World’s Hatred

18 “If the world hates you, be aware that it hated Me first.
19 If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. However, because you do not belong to the world, but I chose you out of the world, for this reason the world hates you.
20 Remember what I told you, ‘A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they obeyed My word, they will obey yours too.
21 But they will do all these things to you on account of My name, because they do not know the one who sent Me.
22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. But they no longer have any excuse for their sin.
23 The one who hates Me hates My Father too.

Acts 4:13  And they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

A Christian should be a striking likeness of Jesus Christ. You have read lives of Christ, beautifully and eloque

Be Like Jesus

ntly written, but the best life of Christ is his living biography, written out in the words and actions of his people. If we were what we profess to be, and what we should be, we should be pictures of Christ; yea, such striking likenesses of him, that the world would not have to hold us up by the hour together, and say, “Well, it seems somewhat of a likeness;” but they would, when they once beheld us, exclaim, “He has been with Jesus; he has been taught of him; he is like him; he has caught the very idea of the holy Man of Nazareth, and he works it out in his life and every-day actions.”

A Christian should be like Christ in his boldness. Never blush to own your religion; your profession will never disgrace you: take care you never disgrace that. Be like Jesus, very valiant for your God. Imitate him in your loving spirit; think kindly, speak kindly, and do kindly, that men may say of you, “He has been with Jesus.” Imitate Jesus in his holiness. Was he zealous for his Master? So be you; ever go about doing good. Let not time be wasted: it is too precious. Was he self-denying, never looking to his own interest? Be the same. Was he devout? Be you fervent in your prayers. Had he deference to his Father’s will? So submit yourselves to him. Was he patient? So learn to endure. And best of all, as the highest portraiture of Jesus, try to forgive your enemies, as he did; and let those sublime words of your Master, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do,” always ring in your ears. Forgive, as you hope to be forgiven. Heap coals of fire on the head of your foe by your kindness to him. Good for evil, recollect, is godlike. Be godlike, then; and in all ways and by all means, so live that all may say of you, “He has been with Jesus.” — By: Charles Spurgeon

October Baby – the Movie

October-BabyLast night for our Wednesday ministry time at First Baptist Church Naples we viewed the movie “October Baby”. This excellent movie details the life of a young woman who finds out some radical news about her birth (I won’t give it away, but you should really see it).  The movie is an excellent argument against Pro-Abortion advocates and the complexities of what is seemingly simple and final. Without giving the movie away, I will simply point you to the Plugged-In Online review of it and let you read for yourself:

I was approached out of the blue by a member of our church that seemed rather upset by this movie and the portrail of those who have had abortions. She kept referring to those that are against abortion as, “Those right-to-lifers”. She went on to discuss the situations in which she feels that abortion should be permitted: rape, incest, deformities of the baby, etc.  She claimed it was better for the baby and mother. She said that people don’t know what it is like to walk in the shoes of those that have gone through challenges like those situations she listed off and that they should not impose their convictions on them. The classic argument for pro-choice. Listening to her I found myself actually becoming angry, righteously angry! That is the kind of anger that rises inside of me when I think of people and how they can rationalize the right to MURDER people, little people.

Letting the Lord help me in this situation, I very calmly asked her several questions that hopefully will jar her logic in this:

  • Would you volunteer to take the place of the baby that had to die under your conditions? In other words, are you willing to die for your convictions?
  • The Bible is very clear that in Matthew 10:30, “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” God knows everything about us.
  • The Ten Commandments are very clear also about MURDER: Exodus 20:13, “You shall not murder.” Tell me how abortion is not murder?

As I confronted her with the Truth, she began to shy away from her argument for abortion. The Truth is what convicted her, not my argument. The Truth always does. When it says in Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, “, we ALL know that is true. Without doubt we know it is true. That is why we as people of God must stop rationalizing away our sin, the sin of others, and remain faithful to the Truth. Love the sinner, but hate the sin. I know it sounds trivial, old, outdated, but that is the Truth. We must love the sinner but hate the sin. The politicians are NOT the ones that we must look to for our moral compass. They change their opinions, stances and convictions like the wind changes directions on a cool fall day. I will not put my house on that foundation of sand! Remember to always look to the Word of God and Trust in Him. Even though we do not see the end, we must trust in Him. I leave you with this promise from God’s Word:

Matthew 10:19, “When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour.”

The Election Should Not Surprise Us At All…..

I am beginning to realize that the results of this election do not surprise me at all. The re-election of President Barack Obama is a clear indicator of the direction our country is heading in. What also proves to me that we are headed into a godless direction are the results of the amendments of my state of Florida. Almost ALL of the amendments regarding government support were endorsed (although they did not win due to the 60% rule). Amendments regarding the reduction of government support were voted AGAINST. America is become a country run by the state. Just as Germany did 100 years ago, we are now doing the same thing.  If you couple that with the breakdown of the moral compass of Biblical Christianity, it becomes clearly evident why we elect those with like mindedness. Our country is headed down a path of complete dependence on human intervention and the legacy of of our forefathers is becoming a faint whisper. Instead of relying on God almighty, we are now relying on government systems, grants and “seed” money.  This saddens me tremendously and creates in me a longing for revival in America.

This trend will continue until our country returns to its “First Love”. This downward spiral has already been demonstrated, the results are verifiable and history will not lie. My prayer now is that we as Christians pray. We pray that our country and those that support the constitution do not give up. America is worth saving and is worth fighting for! I still thank my God for letting me live here and pray that in 4 years the tide will turn back to Him.

Yes, it is not surprising. Not surprising in the least.

2 Chronicles 7:14, ” if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. “

Silly Pride…makes us idiots.

C.S. Lewis said it best in his book “Mere Christianity” speaking about “The Great Sin” :

(3) We must not think Pride is something God forbids because He is offended at it, or that Humility is something He demands as due to His own dignity—as if God Himself was proud. He is not in the least worried about His dignity. The point is, He wants you to know Him: wants to give you Himself. And He and you are two things of such a kind that if you really get into any kind of touch with Him you will, in fact, be humble—delightedly humble, feeling the infinite relief of having for once got rid of all the silly nonsense about your own dignity which has made you restless and unhappy all your life. He is trying to make you humble in order to make this moment possible: trying to take off a lot of silly, ugly, fancy-dress in which we have all got ourselves up and are strutting about like the little idiots we are. I wish I had got a bit further with humility myself: if I had, I could probably tell you more about the relief, the comfort, of taking the fancy-dress off—getting rid of the false self, with all its “Look at me” and “Aren’t I a good boy?” and all its posing and posturing. To get even near it, even for a moment, is like a drink of cold water to a man in a desert.

Awesome. Pride must die.

His Nature and Our Motives

. . . unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven —Matthew 5:20

The characteristic of a disciple is not that he does good things, but that he is good in his motives, having been made good by the supernatural grace of God. The only thing that exceeds right-doing is right-being. Jesus Christ came to place within anyone who would let Him a new heredity that would have a righteousness exceeding that of the scribes and Pharisees. Jesus is saying, “If you are My disciple, you must be right not only in your actions, but also in your motives, your aspirations, and in the deep recesses of the thoughts of your mind.” Your motives must be so pure that God Almighty can see nothing to rebuke. Who can stand in the eternal light of God and have nothing for Him to rebuke? Only the Son of God, and Jesus Christ claims that through His redemption He can place within anyone His own nature and make that person as pure and as simple as a child. The purity that God demands is impossible unless I can be remade within, and that is exactly what Jesus has undertaken to do through His redemption.

No one can make himself pure by obeying laws. Jesus Christ does not give us rules and regulations— He gives us His teachings which are truths that can only be interpreted by His nature which He places within us. The great wonder of Jesus Christ’s salvation is that He changes our heredity. He does not change human nature— He changes its source, and thereby its motives as well.

The only person in the history of the world that had pure motives is Jesus Christ. We all struggle with motives that are not righteous. We must trust in our advocate Jesus. He covers our sins with His sacrifice and substitution for our sin punishment. Jesus did not come here to show us how to live by only, but also came to tell us that we must trust Him for access to the Father. Jesus has what it takes to fulfill the Scriptures requirements of being our advocate.

I think about the events in the news this week: Shootings in Colorado, trial of Jerry Sandusky, the defaming of Penn State’s Football program, copycat criminals in other states trying to mimic what was done in Colorado, etc.  I think about how depraved the soul of man is. Just how needy we are. It saddens me to think that these people all have never felt the love of Christ live in their hearts or have shunned their faith in Him. What also strikes me though is just how easy it is for us to be led astray. Those that have never accepted Christ may be just 1 step away from falling prey to satan and his evil works. Those of us who have accepted Christ could be one step away from falling from grace and getting wrapped up in an evil scheme of satan. The point I am making is that we must be aware of the attacks of satan. The only way to do that is by being in the WORD of God. That is truly the only way to remain faithful to Him who called us.

Read the Word daily, multiple times a day. Memorize it. Meditate on it. Believe it.

Unhewn Stones

Exodus 20:25 If thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.

God’s altar was to be built of unhewn stones, that no trace of human skill or labor might be seen upon it. Human wisdom delights to trim and arrange the doctrines of the cross into a system more artificial and more congenial with the depraved tastes of fallen nature; instead, however, of improving the gospel carnal wisdom pollutes it, until it becomes another gospel, and not the truth of God at all. All alterations and amendments of the Lord’s own Word are defilements and pollutions. The proud heart of man is very anxious to have a hand in the justification of the soul before God; preparations for Christ are dreamed of, humblings and repentings are trusted in, good works are cried up, natural ability is much vaunted, and by all means the attempt is made to lift up human tools upon the divine altar. It were well if sinners would remember that so far from perfecting the Saviour’s work, their carnal confidences only pollute and dishonor it. The Lord alone must be exalted in the work of atonement, and not a single mark of man’s chisel or hammer will be endured. There is an inherent blasphemy in seeking to add to what Christ Jesus in His dying moments declared to be finished, or to improve that in which the Lord Jehovah finds perfect satisfaction. Trembling sinner, away with thy tools, and fall upon thy knees in humble supplication; and accept the Lord Jesus to be the altar of thine atonement, and rest in him alone.

Many professors may take warning from this morning’s text as to the doctrines which they believe. There is among Christians far too much inclination to square and reconcile the truths of revelation; this is a form of irreverence and unbelief, let us strive against it, and receive truth as we find it; rejoicing that the doctrines of the Word are unhewn stones, and so are all the more fit to build an altar for the Lord.

– Charles Spurgeon

God’s Words are not ours. We tend to make things geometric, symmetrical, etc. That is not always God’s way. In fact it is most of the time never His ways. Such is the Gospel of Jesus. We may try and figure it out and put it into a nice little box of understanding, but that is not always true. Sure those that criticize and mock will say you are believing on blind faith. That we have not substance or evidence for our beliefs. But our faith is not built upon understanding, it is built upon trust. I trust in the one who changed my life. I trust in what He did to rescue me from the pit. I trust in Him who called me to be His own. No one can ever refute my own personal testimony. They can tell me that I have made it all up in my mind. That I simply needed a crutch to fall on. They may even agree that it is ok to have those things. But that is not why I believe. The Gospel is not something to be surveyed and calculated. It is not something to be “figured out”. It is meant to be lived. Trusting in Jesus and obeying His commands are the keys to a Holy and Righteous life. Never forget to always read the Bible with an open mind and an understanding that we will not always figure everything out. That is the glorious thing about that Book. It is living.

I have stopped reading the news online…

It simply became too time consuming, and led to anxiety anyways.  The Lord needs more time with my in the morning and it has been good.  I have not read ANY news websites for the past week and it feel GOOD!  I have had more time with the Lord in His Word than I have in the last 6 months.  Now the only thing I need to do now is get more sleep so I am more able to comprehend what I am reading when I wake up! 🙂 You all have a great day.
